Meryem Çifteci is a Dutch film director and screenwriter drawn to stories about the relationships and connections that shape our lives. She is particularly interested in situations in which love becomes complicated and loneliness quietly takes hold.

She looks for stories that often remain unseen or overlooked. Through character-driven stories, she seeks to shed light on broader social trends. For her, film is a way of confronting shame and fear, creating room for comfort and hope.

Meryem is currently completing her debut short film, PERSONAL, a project made possible through the Film Fund Fiction Wildcard she received for her graduation film NIEMAND THUIS (NOBODY HOME). In autumn, she will travel to Türkiye with her partner and cinematographer Sil Weel to research and film a new short documentary project.
